EDP or EDT – it's one of the most common questions we get. And it's actually an important difference that affects how your perfume sits, how long it lasts and how strong it feels.
When you shop for perfume you often come across the abbreviations EDT and EDP. Most people know it's about concentration, but what does it actually mean in practice – and which should you choose?
What do EDT and EDP mean?
EDT – Eau de Toilette typically contains 5–15% perfume oil dissolved in alcohol. It's a lighter, fresher form that evaporates relatively quickly. EDT is great for daytime wear, warm climates and if you prefer a subtle scent.
EDP – Eau de Parfum typically contains 15–25% perfume oil. This gives a deeper, more complex fragrance that lasts longer on the skin – often 6–10 hours or more. EDP is the format we at Mirisanno always choose for our perfumes, precisely because it gives the fragrance room to fully develop on your skin.
How long do they last?
- EDT: 3–5 hours
- EDP: 6–10+ hours
There are also stronger variants like Eau de Cologne (EDC, lower concentration) and Parfum/Extrait (30%+, extremely long-lasting), but EDP is the perfect balance between intensity and wearability.
Why we chose the EDP format
At Mirisanno we handcraft all our perfumes in small batches. When we decided on the EDP format the reason was simple: we wanted you to experience the fragrance fully developed – top, heart and base notes – without needing to reapply mid-day.
Take our Blue Escape EDP – it opens with fresh ginger and green tea, but it's only after 20–30 minutes that the mineral base notes truly take shape on the skin. That requires an EDP concentration to work as intended.
Which should you choose?
- Choose EDT if you want something light for summer heat or a subtle office scent.
- Choose EDP if you want a fragrance that lingers, develops throughout the day and truly makes an impression.
Not sure which of our EDPs suits you best? Try our Mirisanno Sample Kit – you get all perfumes in a convenient trial size to find your favourite before committing to a full bottle.
Summary
EDP delivers more perfume oil, a deeper scent and longer longevity than EDT. At Mirisanno Parfums all fragrances are EDP for exactly that reason – we want your perfume to be an experience, not just a scent.
