How we build a perfume – from idea to bottle

Have you ever wondered how a perfume is actually made?

For me, it always starts with a feeling. It can be something as simple as the scent of dry leaves on an autumn day or the warmth of a sunset. Suddenly a thought is born: how would it feel if you could capture this in a bottle?

Step 1: The idea behind the scent

Every perfume has a story. When we created Fading Sun , we wanted to capture the transition between summer and autumn – the warmth that slowly gives way to cooler days. To enhance the feeling, we chose orange blossom, vanilla and spices as the building blocks.

💡 Tip: Think about what feeling you want to enhance in your everyday life. Do you want energy? Security? Sensuality? Your perfume can be a mirror of just that.

Step 2: Choosing raw materials

A perfume is built up of notes that together create the whole. Should it be fresh citrus fruits, soft flowers or smoky woods? Each ingredient carries its own personality and affects the whole.

In Estate we wanted to create a scent of summer energy. That's why we chose fresh citrus notes and green tones that feel both bright and vibrant.

Step 3: Composing a perfume

Building a perfume is a bit like composing music:

Top notes – light and fast, the first impression.
Heart notes – the soul of the perfume, what carries the scent.
Base notes – deep tones that linger the longest on the skin.

When all of these are combined correctly, magic occurs – a unique scent that tells a story.

Step 4: Maturation & bottling

Once we have finished mixing, the perfume is allowed to mature . For several weeks, the ingredients are allowed to blend together and create balance. Only then are the bottles filled, ready to be worn and become a part of someone's everyday life.

This is where the craftsmanship really shines. With us, every step is done by hand – from mixing to filling and labeling.
