Unisex Perfume – Why Gender-Neutral Fragrances Are the Future

Perfume has long been divided into "women's" and "men's". But that division is disappearing – and for good reason. Unisex perfumes are growing fast and represent something important: that fragrance has no gender.

What is a unisex perfume?

A unisex perfume – also called a gender-neutral fragrance – is designed to sit beautifully regardless of who wears it. It's not about removing everything perceived as "feminine" or "masculine", but about balancing notes in a way that's universally appealing.

In practice: a unisex perfume can have floral notes (traditionally "feminine") combined with woody or spicy notes (traditionally "masculine") in a way that creates harmony rather than polarity.

Why did Mirisanno choose to make all fragrances unisex?

It was a simple decision. We create perfumes we want to wear ourselves – and we didn't want to limit who could wear them. Scent is a personal expression, not a gender. Our Estate EDP with orange blossom and cedarwood is worn just as beautifully by anyone. The same goes for Immortal with its deep woody notes – intense and interesting regardless of who wears it.

Unisex perfumes outperforming "gendered" fragrances

Niche perfumery has long been moving toward gender neutrality. Houses like Le Labo, Byredo and Maison Margiela build their entire collections without "women's" and "men's" distinctions. The reason is simple: when you remove the gender label and focus on the fragrance itself, people choose with their nose instead of convention.

How do you find "your" unisex fragrance?

Forget what the packaging or description says. Test the fragrance on your skin and wear it for at least 30 minutes – it's only when the base notes have emerged that you know if the scent is truly yours. Each person's skin chemistry changes the perfume slightly, which makes a unisex fragrance extra unique: it's yours, in your way.

Our recommendation is to start with our Mirisanno Sample Kit – you can test the whole collection and learn how each fragrance develops on you specifically:

The future is gender-neutral

The industry is clearly moving toward gender-neutral fragrances. Younger generations choose perfumes based on how they smell – not based on who they're "intended" for. It's a shift we welcome and that we've built all of Mirisanno Parfums around.

Fragrance is freedom. Choose with your nose.
